Automated Diffusion Testing
The Phoenix RDS (Robotic Diffusion Station) platform provides fully automated sampling and collection for six or twelve vertical diffusion cells, enabling automated diffusion testing. It also features a compact footprint and uses the same heating and stirring blocks from the DB-6.
A third block provides space for a wash station and up to five additional media sources. Samples are collected into 12×32 vials with pre-slit septa. Controlled by Teledyne LABS Diffusion Master™ software, the system lets you operate up to two RDS systems, handling 24 vertical diffusion cells simultaneously, from a single computer workstation.
Features of Automated Diffusion Testing
Phoenix Diffusion Cells
Het Phoenix™ Diffusion Cell delivers improved ease of use, high durability, and greater versatility compared to conventional hand-blown vertical diffusion cells. Operating on dry heat, it eliminates the need for water jacketing, allowing construction from heavy-duty borosilicate glass with precise dimensional tolerances.
The large-diameter opening in the sampling arm allows extract-and-replace sampling with standard pipette tips (~300 μL). This design simplifies the sampling, supports automated diffusion testing, reduces training, and lowers operating costs.
Rapid Sampling and Collection
Automated sampling with an angled probe mimics manual methods by withdrawing and collecting samples before replacing the media. The system achieves volumetric accuracy of ±1% or 25 μL. In addition, staggered sampling with pre-programmed offset times simplifies test preparation.
Rapid sampling takes just two minutes per cell. Carryover prevention is highly effective, typically requiring only 200 μL for rinsing. Custom wash protocols let the analyst clean the probe using one or more solvents at once or with air.
Programming Versatility
The RDS offers a wide range of programming capabilities for analysts, including rapid setup of diffusion test parameters, configurable instructions to operators; sampling, wash, and rinse configurable on a cell-per-cell basis; speed and temperature changes during run; ability to add media to offset evaporation; ability to run different cell groups with different settings.
Diffusion Master and 21 CFR Part 11 Compliance
Teledyne LABS Diffusion Master software combines speed, security, and scalability in an easy-to-use interface. Key features include support for unlimited users and groups, configurable permissions, password protection, inactivity timeouts, and a complete audit trail.
In addition, it supports serial number tracking, digital signatures for archived test reports, and logs for events, errors, and test results. Users can search and filter based on any number of database parameters. On-screen test progress and sample time alerts keep users informed, while system status and test reports can be printed directly to a network printer.
